A CSR policy (Corporate Social Responsibility) is a set of actions and principles that a company implements to create a positive impact on society and the environment while remaining economically viable.
CSR Policy - Black Tenders Event
We heard you, it's true that we should have shared this long ago. The marine environment has always been our playground, and we didn’t wait for it to be called a "CSR policy" or become a trend to adopt responsible practices. When you see the sea every day, it becomes clear how important it is to think about the future, our children, and others, and to take action to make a real difference.
Black Tender, a boat model that's not so black
A hydrodynamic hull consumes less fuel; our vessels have been custom-built in the factory to meet our specific needs and are designed for maximum efficiency and safety based on the sea conditions in our region. The boats are also taken out weekly to keep the hulls clean, minimizing resistance and optimizing performance.
The weight of each boat, with straddle seats, is optimized by eliminating unnecessary furnishings. The goal is to maximize onboard space for passengers while keeping the vessel as light as possible to reduce fuel consumption. As a result, 300-horsepower engines are sufficient, with an average fuel consumption of just 30L per hour.
Our engines are modern and replaced every two years to take advantage of the latest technological advancements from manufacturers, optimizing both fuel efficiency and noise reduction. For the same reasons, Black Tenders is equipped with next-generation propellers, meticulously maintained to ensure peak performance.
Black Tenders requires its captains to practice eco-friendly navigation by maintaining reduced speeds during transfers and enforcing a maximum speed limit well below the boat’s full capacity when passengers are on board. This approach ensures both safety and fuel efficiency.
A local service designed by expert navigators
Black Tenders is, above all, the story of local professionals passionate experts dedicated to doing things the right way. The Black Tenders team is made up of locals who deeply care about preserving the treasures of the French Riviera for future generations to explore and enjoy.
Our boats are moored at Port du Béal in Cannes La Bocca, a central location between Monaco and Saint-Tropez. This strategic position allows us to operate within a maximum one-hour sailing radius around our home port, ensuring a responsive and local service.
You won’t find any tours at Black Tenders offering trips to the marine sanctuary to observe dolphins and other cetaceans. By definition, a sanctuary is a place of peace for endangered animals, where human presence has no place.
In 2024, Black Tenders announced an exclusive partnership with Pépite Mandelieu for provisioning our boats with food. Pépite Mandelieu operates its own farm in the hinterland and prepares homemade catering options, embracing a short supply chain philosophy with fresh, locally sourced seasonal products.
A long-term vision & community
Our captains are instructed to regularly vary their routes to minimize the impact of our presence in natural areas, whether protected or not. They also make it a priority to collect any floating debris encountered at sea. During our excursions, captains always take a moment to raise awareness among passengers about marine conservation.
On board our Black Tenders, beverages are offered in large formats and served individually in reusable biodegradable bioplastic cups made from seaweed washed up on Breton beaches. A great 100% Made in France concept.
Every drop counts. Between 2022 and 2023, we reduced our freshwater consumption by 30%. Seats are cleaned manually with a bucket between each trip, inflatable sections are wiped down with a chamois cloth, and the rest of the boat is now washed only when necessary.
Cleaning is done using a high-pressure washer for maximum efficiency with minimal water usage.
The outdoor faucet at our nautical base has been removed, as it was primarily used without our knowledge by beachgoers from the nearby shore. Similarly, access to the dock faucet is now secured with a lock.
Black Tenders gives new generations a chance each season through a close collaboration with INSEIT Nice, a leading institution in captain training for many years.
In 2023, two work-study students also joined our commercial team at the office.
Speaking of new generations, Black Tenders partners with local schools and has been offering educational awareness days at sea for primary school students, aligned with their curriculum, for several years. Due to new regulations, we are currently awaiting our Pass Culture/Adage certification to continue this initiative.
In 2024, Black Tenders is committing to supporting the French Red Cross. Actions will be carried out in partnership with the Mandelieu branch based on their needs.
Our room for improvement
In 2024, Black Tenders joined the First Mile European program for a three-year period. This project, focused on consumer behavior analysis, aims to sustainably optimize our services by reassessing both our internal and external operations with the guidance of industry experts. As part of this initiative, we have strengthened waste management on board our boats by introducing new selective sorting solutions.
This commitment and effort led Black Tenders to obtain the Qualité Tourisme label in 2024, recognizing the quality of our services and our sustainable approach.
Unfortunately, there is currently no technologically viable alternative that is more sustainable for our activities. Electric solutions remain unreliable, with numerous reported battery explosion incidents in saltwater environments, not to mention the added battery weight, which negatively impacts vessel performance.
We are also closely monitoring advancements in biofuels, which could soon revolutionize the market. Our current fuel already contains a small percentage of biofuel.
Count on us we’re just getting started.
